Yorkshire: Places to Explore

Robin Hood's Bay

This tiny fishing village squeezed into a steep narrow ravine is absolutely adorable, from its name right down to its little red-roof cottages and cobbled roads. The village has no connection to the famous medieval outlaw, though. It was once a smuggling center that passed contraband up the streambed beneath the cottages, linked to one another by secret passages. The attraction here is the town itself, with its winding stone staircases that eventually wander off across the headland. Park in the pay lots at the top of the hill. Do not attempt to drive down the hill.
