Fodor's Expert Review Hotel du Vin

A converted 19th-century orphanage, the York outpost of this boutique hotel mini-chain has preserved the exposed brick walls and arched doorways of the original building. The spacious, quiet rooms are filled with modern leather furnishings and original artwork. Some are on two levels, with the bathrooms upstairs, while most have claw-foot tubs and showers big enough for two. The in-house restaurant specializes in bistro-style cooking with a British twist. Service is helpful and cheerful.
