Originally a 17th-century coaching inn, this luxurious country-house hotel near the River Wharfe is an easy walk from Bolton Abbey. A new wing has guest rooms in a contemporary style, while rooms in the original main house are more traditional. These are tastefully decorated with antiques, four-poster beds, perfectly chosen textiles, and memorabilia from Chatsworth House, the Derbyshire seat of the Duke of Devonshire, who owns the hotel. The elegant Burlington restaurant has earned numerous awards. Its fixed-price menu (£65) uses game and fish from the estate. The brasserie serves more moderately priced fare. There's a lovely spa with an indoor swimming pool in a 17th-century barn, where you can work off that dinner.
