Bishop's Palace

Bishop's Palace Review

The Bishop's Eye gate leading from Market Place takes you to the magnificent, moat-ringed Bishop's Palace, which retains parts of the original 13th-century residence. Most rooms are closed to the public, but you can see the private chapel, the gatehouse, and the ruins of a late-13th-century great hall in the peaceful grounds. The hall lost its roof in the 16th century because Edward VI needed the lead it contained.
