Ancient Gate House Review

This venerable hostelry makes a convenient and atmospheric base for exploring the area. The premises incorporate the Great West Gate, dating from 1473, accessible via an ancient stone staircase. The rooms are small, but some have four-poster beds and wonderful views across to the cathedral. Rugantino's serves Italian and English dishes, made largely from local produce. Breakfast may be across the street at the White Hart.
