Ightham Mote

Ightham Mote Review

Finding Ightham Mote requires careful navigation, but it's worth the effort to see a vision right out of the Middle Ages. To enter this outstanding example of a small manor house, you cross a stone bridge over a dry moat. This moat, however, doesn't relate to the "mote" in the name, which refers to the role of the house as a meeting place, or "moot." Built nearly 700 years ago, Ightham's magical exterior has changed little since the 14th century, but within you'll find that it encompasses styles of several periods, Tudor to Victorian. The Great Hall, Tudor chapel, drawing room, and billiards room are all highlights.
