Fodor's Expert Review Ship Hotel
North St., Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1NH, England
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Originally the home of Admiral George Murray, one of Admiral Nelson's right-hand men, this architecturally interesting hotel is known for its flying (partially freestanding) staircase and colonnade. The house has been restored to its 18th-century elegance, although the guest rooms have a simpler, more modern design than the grand public spaces. Beds are big and comfortable, with vivid throws providing splashes of color. The restaurant is flooded with light from the rows of big windows. Prices rise steeply during the Glorious Goodwood horse race in July.
