The Pig Review

Funkier sister of glamorous Lime Wood, this New Forest "restaurant with rooms" puts the emphasis on localism and seasonality and is a local favorite. Lunch and dinner are served in a large conservatory overlooking lawns, and 95% of the ingredients come from the kitchen garden or other sources within 15 miles. The frequently changing menu may include dishes like honey and smoked chili crispy pork belly salad or Lyme Bay scallops with bacon. As the name suggests, porcine dishes feature prominently. You can overnight in one of the 26 comfortable rooms in the main building (an 18th-century former royal hunting lodge) or the converted stable block. All combine a slightly retro, shabby-chic style with modern bathrooms. You may accompany the "staff forager" on expeditions to find edible fauna like wild garlic.
