Chewton Glen Review
This grand early-19th-century country-house hotel and spa on extensive manicured grounds ranks among Britain's most acclaimed—and most expensive—lodgings; all rooms are opulently decorated in rich fabrics, and many have a balcony or terrace. Nature lovers might want to try one of the new tree-house suites up in the forest canopy. The lavish spa is particularly strong on facials. The restaurant, Vetvier, concentrates on classic meat and seafood dishes, and has a choice of more than 700 wines. Besides the usual golf and tennis, less conventional leisure activites such as archery, croquet, and even ferret racing are offered. Chewton Glen is 12 miles southwest of Lyndhurst on the A35.
