Fodor's Review

These remains of a Roman amphitheater on the edge of town were built on a prehistoric site that later served as a place of execution. (Hardy's Mayor of Casterbridge contains a vivid evocation of the Rings.) As late as 1706 a girl was burned at the stake here.
