Portsmouth's historic harbor, revitalized waterfront, and working port make it an energetic place. At the newly developed Gunwharf Quays you'll find the soaring Spinnaker Tower, as well as shops, restaurants, bars, and a contemporary art gallery. The main attraction for many travelers is the extraordinary collection of maritime memorabilia, including well-preserved warships from the Napoleonic era, at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, and other museums. For others, Portsmouth is primarily of interest for the ferries that set off from here to the Isle of Wight and more distant destinations.
