The South Travel Guide

In addition to a historic harbor and revitalized waterfront, Portsmouth has the energy of a working port. At the newly developed Gunwharf Quays you'll find the soaring Spinnaker Tower, as well as shops, restaurants, bars, and a contemporary art gallery. The main attractions for many visitors are Nelson’s well-preserved HMS Victory, the flagship from which he won the Battle of Trafalgar,

on view at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and the extraordinary record of seafaring history at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, the D-Day Museum (Operation Overlord embarked from Portsmouth), and the rest of the city’s maritime collections. For others, Portsmouth is primarily of interest for the ferries that set off from here to the Isle of Wight and more distant destinations.
