Fodor's Review

A marvelous flight of fancy, Alnwick Garden was designed by Capability Brown in 1750. Centering on modern terraced fountains by Belgian designers Jacques and Peter Wirtz, the gardens include traditional features (shaded woodland walks, a rose garden) and funkier, kid-appealing elements such as a Poison Garden and a labyrinth of towering bamboo. You can buy clippings of the unique varieties of roses in the shop. Opening and closing times are subject to change due to season and weather, so call ahead. This is also the location of one of the area's most unique restaurants, the Treehouse.
