Shieldhall Guesthouse Review

This lovely 19th-century farmhouse was once home to the family of the legendary landscaper Capability Brown. Surrounded by acres of rolling farmland, it's an ideal base if you want to explore remote stretches of Hadrian's Wall. Rooms are small but beautifully decorated with rich fabrics; bathrooms are big and modern. The friendly owners have a woodworking shop nearby where they make all the furniture. Elegant dinners are served at the main house's large dining table with advance notice. The guest lounge, with its wall-to-wall bookshelves and open fireplace, has a bar hidden behind a secret door. The inn is about about 15 miles northeast of Hexham.
