Fodor's Review

At this convivial restaurant, cheerful raspberry walls and unfussy walnut furnishings create a nicely laid-back vibe that complements the excellent food. The menu focuses on ultra-traditional flavors made with organic, seasonal, and locally-sourced ingredients. The names of the dishes are likely to baffle anyone from outside the region; you might find pan haggarty (a classic Northumberland specialty made with cheese, onions, and potatoes), or clapshot (a Scottish favorite made with swede, turnips, potatoes, and beef dripping) alongside mains of lamb rump with deviled kidneys, and Hartelpool sea bass with creamed greens and bacon.
