The Lake District Sights

Kendal Museum

Kendal Museum Review

Focusing on natural history and archaeology, this grand, old-fashioned museum details splendidly the flora and fauna of the Lake District. It also has displays on the region's great fell walker, Alfred Wainwright (1907–91) who used to be the museum's curator. His famous handwritten Lake District walking guides are sold in local book and gift shops. The interactive Kendal Castle display charts the town's history from prehistoric times into the 21st century. The museum is at the northern end of town, close to the train station.
