The Lake District Restaurants

George and Dragon

George and Dragon Review

This pub and restaurant makes good use of local produce for tasty traditional dishes, including wild mushroom and black pudding fricassee. Sausages come from the Eden Valley, brown trout from the River Lowther, and much of the greens are grown in the gardens at Askham Hall. The inn is also a well-tended spot for a pint of local beer, with handsome slate floors, roaring wood fires, and hanging hops. Bonnie Prince Charlie was once involved in a battle here, and the remains of 12 Scottish rebels were discovered in the pub's back garden. For an overnight stay, choose from 12 smart, individually designed guest rooms with furnishings from the Lowther family's collection.
