Fodor's Review

Elegant, peaceful, and with a focus on organic and sustainable fare, Cote How is a cut above most of the B&Bs in the lakes. Woodrow Wilson had his portrait painted here, and the sophistication of the house's former existence as the home of painter Frederick Yates lives on in its subtle decoration. Big bathrooms have views over the 11 acres of gardens and the high fell beyond, beds are king-size, and Herdwick carpets (made from the wool of local sheep) and homemade

candles add to the homey, welcoming feel. Vegetarians are well catered to at breakfast, but there is also organic, locally sourced meat on the menu. There's also an organic, licensed tearoom.
