The Jumble Room

The Jumble Room Review

A small stone building dating to the 18th century, Grasmere's first shop is now a friendly, fashionable, and colorful place, with children's books, bold animal paintings, and hanging lamps. A dedicated local fan base means the place always buzzes, and the owners' enthusiasm is contagious. The food is an eclectic mix of international and traditional British: excellent fish-and-chips and beefsteak appear on the menu with polenta gnocchi with beetroot, pesto, and thyme-roasted pumpkin. Lunches are lighter and cheaper, with good soups and homemade puddings; bread is baked fresh every day. Note: hours change frequently, so call ahead.
