$$$$$, Alcester
Fodor's Review:
Cozy public rooms with fireplaces and antiques and 11 acres of grounds with a topiary garden enhance this 16th-century manor house, now a luxurious retreat with the requisite spa. The bedrooms retain period features and are richly decorated in modern or traditional country style; some have four-poster beds. The excellent wine list complements the wood-panel restaurant's sophisticated food (££££-£££££), which includes honey-glaze lamb and chicken breast stuffed with Brie and apricots.
