When to Go to Stratford-upon-Avon

In Stratford, avoid visits on weekends and school holidays, and take in the main Shakespeare shrines in the early morning to see them at their least frenetic. One high point of Stratford's calendar is the Shakespeare Birthday Celebrations, usually on the weekend nearest to April 23. If you visit during this time, make hotel reservations as early as possible. Warwick Castle, too, usually brims with visitors, and you should arrive early in the day to beat the rush. Some country properties fill up quickly on weekends, and most close in winter. Some stately homes have limited hours even in summer, and many close in winter.
