Fodor's Review

After a vast redevelopment project doubling its overall size, this University of Manchester–owned art museum reopened in early 2015 to reveal its integration into the surrounding parkland through the creation of an art garden, a sculpture terrace, an orchard garden, and a landscape gallery. Some of the free events and activities take you out into the park itself, in the form of messy play for kids, walks, and self-guided trails. The renowned collections inside the gallery embrace British watercolors, old-master drawings, postimpressionist works, wallpapers, and an outstanding textile gallery befitting a city built on textile manufacturing. There's also a new learning studio for families and a "café in the trees" with floor-to-ceiling windows and a seasonal British menu.
