Fodor's Review

How could any book lover resist a shop with such a Dickensian name? Maggs has been selling rare books and manuscripts since 1853 and is one of the world's oldest and largest such dealers (they also deal in autographs). The staff are expert enough to advise important collectors, but friendly and helpful to all interested visitors. Far from being fussy, the store includes a "counterculture" section with works on subversion, extremism, punk, the occult, and more. Moved out of its longtime location on Berkeley Square, the shop is now temporarily relocated on Curzon Street until its new, larger premises nearby are ready, expected to be toward the end of 2016.
