Fodor's Review:

Named after a ship, this is London's oldest riverside pub, dating from around 1520. Once upon a time it was called the Devil's Tavern because of the lowlife criminals -- thieves and smugglers -- who congregated here. Ornamented with pewter ware and nautical objects, this much-loved "boozer" is often pointed out from boat trips up the Thames.

Fish & Chips with BubbleSqueak

Posted by beshep58 from Denton,Tx USA on 8/7/08
Late on a Sunday afternoon, my husband and I ventured down into the neighborhood much farther than we expected trying to find Prospect of Whitby. We walked from the London Bridge Hilton hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by this historical pub upon arrival and after trekking on foot through a less than attractive neighborhood. There is a tube stop not far, and took it back to our hotel. I have to recommend the Fish&Chips with Bubblesqueak(mushy peas)! It was all very fresh and tastier than we expected. The place is rather small, and smoky with a deck smaller than a twin size bed. Service was friendly.
