Pizza East

Pizza East Review

The whole Wham!-glam End End demimonde seems to have taken up residence at this knockabout gourmet pizza parlor, which serves up chewy, 10-inch, wood-fired, thin-crust, crispy pizzas in a former tea warehouse—actually, an achingly au courant setting of exposed concrete walls, raw brickwork, pillars, pipes, and industrial ducting. Amid a soundscape of Stone Roses, Baby Shambles, and vintage Bowie, mix things up at the long refractory-style shared tables with a starter of sea bass carpaccio with fennel and chili, or broad beans with pecorino, before tearing into the one of the eleven £8–£14, semolina-crust, rich pizzas, which might be topped with San Daniele ham, ricotta and pesto, or pancetta, eggplant, and scamorza (an Italian cow's-milk cheese). There's wine by the tap, cocktails by the jug (if you ask nicely), plus karaoke, slam poetry, hip-hop, or old-school tune sessions in the downstairs Concrete basement bar.
