Fodor's Review

Vichyssoise soupe du jour with sliced baguette, butter, and a jug of water for £2.25? A prix-fixe with steak haché and frites in a silver cup for £8.75? Or a 3-course daily set meal with salade Mâche, confit duck, a glass of red, water, and coffee for £19.75? And just off Piccadilly, in a glam and gilded Art Deco/Beaux Arts gastro and jazz-bar basement emporium? Surely some mistake? But no, these are a few indecently priced steals on offer at

restaurateurs Corbin and King's magnifique take on an all-day Parisian-style brasserie ("Chartier by way of La Coupole," says King), just north of Piccadilly Circus. Save centimes on a classic céleri rémoulade for £2.95 or soupe de poisson for £4.95 in a soaring salon of leather banquettes, marbled columns, mirrors, and stained birch tops. You'll also find decent onglet steak, seafood vol-au-vent, or choucroute Alsacienne with pork belly and Frankfurters, plus nifty profiteroles or nougat glacé. Afterwards, imbibe at the swank Bar Américain, or enjoy live jazz or cabaret at the in-house The Crazy Coqs.
