This grand old Victorian railway hotel looks lavish and over-the-top on the outside, but inside it's all about modern, with polished wood, neutral colors, Frette linens, and contemporary art. You'll pine for nothing here -- there are five restaurants (serving sushi, seafood, brasserie fare, pub food, and haute cuisine), a popular bar, a gorgeous spa, and a boutique selling the covetable Ren bath products with which all the hotel's bathrooms are stocked. Rooms on the fifth and sixth floors are modern lofts, with lots of light. Suites are beautifully designed. Note that the restaurants and bars are favored by locals, so this is not a total retreat from bustling London life.
