Spuntino

Spuntino Review

Moody tin-tile ceilings, dangly low-wattage filament light bulbs, tattooed waitstaff, bluegrass tunes, and only 26 raised counter stools at this pewter-topped rectangular bar and Lower East Side/Italian-inspired Soho diner makes this the absolute, undisputed, most unimaginably cool gig in town. Naturally, there's no phone, no reservations, and minimal signage, but that only adds to the speakeasy vibe. Once seated after a wait, try truffled egg toast, grits, softshell crab, or Yankee sliders—like ground beef and bone marrow, or spiced mackerel—but don't forget there's mac and cheese or steak and eggs. How could you leave without trying the famed peanut butter and jelly sandwich or the Nutella pizzetta? And wash it all down with a shot or two of Elijah Craig or Knob Creek bourbon.
