Come here for the British national dish of fish-and-chips—battered cod, thick fries with salt and vinegar, and a dollop of homemade tartar sauce. Note that it's tricky to find: head three blocks south of St. Pancras station and the British Library, then down Judd Street. It has net curtains, velvet seats, and worn carpet, and it's filled with students and academics from the Library's Reading Room. They serve freshly caught cod, plaice, haddock, sea bass, and salmon, with mushy peas, as well as dishes like chicken, which you can order grilled—but that would defeat the purpose.

I have been to London numerous times and eaten at numerous seafood restaurants. When I go now, I go staight to the North Sea. If you sit down to eat, share the Seafood platter with someone else, it's plenty.
