Wellcome Museum

Fodor's Review:

If you fancy something medicinal, sample this quirky collection by U.S. pharmaceutical millionaire and philanthropist Henry Wellcome (1853-1936). Opened in 2007, the museum aims to make medical history and knowledge interesting and accessible to all (though it is not recommended for children under 14). His beloved artifacts, comprising an estimated 1 million items, include Napoleon's toothbrush, Horatio Nelson's razor, and Charles Darwin's walking stick. There are also anatomical models, Peruvian mummies, and Japanese sex aids as well as two permanent exhibitions to inspire debate, Medicine Man and Medicine Now.

  • Cost: Free
  • Open: Mon., Wed., Fri. and Sat. 10-6, Thurs. 10-10, Sun. 11-6
  • Tube: Euston Sq.
