One Aldwych Review

An Edwardian building is an understated blend of contemporary and classic, resulting in pure, modern luxury, with an artsy lobby and guest rooms equipped with feather duvets, Italian linen sheets, and ample elegance. Suites have such amenities as private gyms, kitchens, and terraces, and the gorgeous swimming pool in the health club has underwater speakers that play music you can hear only when you dive in.

For years I have stayed at the Savoy. I visited London while the Savoy was undergoing renovations and decided to try 1 Aldwych. The room was not just small, it was tiny. My wife and I could not both move around the room at the same time. Indeed, it was so small that there was not enough room for a bedside table on both sides of the double bed.

In addition, the "green" bathroom made so much noise, that I was awakened by the sound of the toilet being flushed in the room next to ours.

And all this for an exorbitant price. The most ridiculous hotel I have ever seen.

One Aldwych is my favorite London hotel. I have stayed there many times, and I love it because the staff remember who I am, they will bend over backward to help me out, and are extremely pleasant. The last time I stayed there I felt my room was too noisy, and they instantly moved me to a quieter room. I love the location, near to Covent Garden and right in the Theatre District. The decor is just right for me - modern with clean lines, very new and updated. Room service was great, with lots of options including wheat-free toast. A bit pricey, though. The rooms are a bit small, but all of the rooms in central London seem to be. They are nicely appointed, as are the bathrooms, which have excellent shower/tub combinations. I also appreciate the non-smoking rooms. This is an excellent hotel for business travellers and vacationers who want something a bit up-market with a great location.
