L'Anima

L'Anima Review

Brilliant southern Italian cuisine in a (love-it-or-loathe-it) modern glass-sided shoe-box of a restaurant characterizes the breezy business-based scene here in the City district. Chef Francesco Mazzei draws inspiration from Sicily, Puglia, Sardinia, and Calabria, and prowls the bar, floor, and clear-fronted kitchen like the proud owner he is. Simple, modern, and restrained dishes like wild mushroom and black truffle tagliolini and Sardinian fish stew are near perfection, as is the wood-roasted turbot with artichoke and Calabrian sausage—as succulent as you could wish. Desserts, like liquorice zabayon wine custard, are bellissimo, and the wine list, naturally, is nearly all Italian.
