It's all Cockney banter and all-day full English breakfasts at this tiny Grade II–listed 1900 family-run greasy spoon near the East End's great Brick Lane and Columbia Road street markets. With atmospheric stained glass, Formica tables, art deco marquetry and signed pics of East Enders TV soap stars, it's a rowdy hole-in-the-wall for the greasy "fry-ups" that the British adore: eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, toast, tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding, tea,
and bubble-and-squeak (cabbage and mashed potatoes). Matriarch "Mama" Maria also rustles up Toscana spaghetti and lasagna, plus steamed sponge and bread pudding. Your arteries may clog up, but at least the wallet survives. Everything's less than £8.90, but remember this is the East End, and hence it's "Cash only, Maate!!"
