St. John Bread & Wine

Fodor's Review:

The canteen cousin of St. John in Clerkenwell is a winner no matter what meal of the day: have porridge, prunes, and pikelets for breakfast, seed cake and Madeira for "elevenses," beetroot and pickled walnuts for lunch, and smoked sprats for dinner. It's similar to St. John in that you'll find ox heart, pigskin, "blood cake," and duck egg on the menu. Yummy bread is baked on-site, and the wine is mainly French. Note it's a good spot after a visit to nearby Brick Lane or Old Spitalfields markets.
