The Wolseley

The Wolseley Review

The whole of beau London comes for the always-on-show spectacle and soaring elegance at this double-height Viennese-style Mitteleuropa grand café on Piccadilly. Framed with black laquerware, silver service, and a few doors down from the Ritz, this all-day brasserie begins its long decadent days with breakfast at 7 am and serves until midnight. Don't be shy to pop in on spec (they hold seats back precisely for this) to enjoy such highlights as Hungarian goulash, Matjes herrings with pumpernickel, chicken soup, chopped liver, kedgeree, steak tartare, or the breaded Wiener Schnitzel. For dessert, go for the luscious Kaiserschmarren—a caramalized and buttered pancake with stewed fruit and raisins—and don't forget to book a return table to savor the Viennoiserie pastries at one of their classy afternoon teas.
