Fodor's Review

Francophiles and die-hard romantics cherish this quirky, two-story 1871 French patisserie, vintage tea parlor, and occasional pop-up art space, where happily nothing seems to have changed since the 1940s. Framed with classic blue-and-white striped awnings, and overflowing with art deco cake stands, fairy lights, antique mirrors, and pink-and-purple gauze drapes, the colorful pastries, tarts, croissants, and sweet cakes at this renowned time-warp Soho institution are well loved and baked on-site. The chocolate and fruit éclairs, Saint-Honoré and Black Forest gâteaux, marzipan figs, Mont Blancs, strawberry fancies, and flaky almond croissants never fail to delight. Run by Resistance-chic Soho legend, Michelle Wade, Maison Bertaux also hosts a cheery retro tea service, which come with tasty savories, like broccoli quiche or Dijon slice, with cheese, peppers, and mustard.
