Fodor's England 2014
The Fischer family bought this stately Edwardian manor on the edge of the Chatsworth estate, 4 miles north of Bakewell, to house their restaurant. Intimate and formal, the restaurant takes pride in using high-quality local products; on the fixed-price menus you'll find wild venison, Derbyshire pork and lamb, and Yorkshire rhubarb, all presented with care and aplomb. If you can't decide, there's a six-course tasting menu of specialty dishes (£72, or £120 with wines). With 11 elegant bedrooms here as well, you might consider staying the night.
