Fodor's Review

Almost all out-of-town roads lead toward this central green with its curving semicircle of buildings, near where Terrace Road meets St. Johns Road. The beautiful Georgian-era Crescent, with its arches, colonnades, and 378 windows, was built in 1780 by fashionable architect John Carr for the fifth duke of Devonshire (of nearby Chatsworth House). A large portion of it is currently being redeveloped into a luxury hotel.
