Central Library

Central Library Review

The circular exterior of the city's main library, topped by a line of Doric columns and a massive Corinthian portico facing St. Peter's Square, is a major focus for Manchester's most prestigious civic quarter. Erected in 1930, it was at one time the biggest municipal library in the world. The glass-top reading room, inspired by the Pantheon, is worth seeing. The library will be closed for renovation until 2013.
