Central Library Review
The circular exterior of the city's main library, topped by a line of Doric columns and a massive Corinthian portico facing St. Peter's Square, is a major focus for Manchester's most prestigious civic quarter. Erected in 1930, it was at one time the biggest municipal library in the world. The glass-top reading room, inspired by the Pantheon, is worth seeing. A 2014 renovation added the British Film Institute Mediatheque, a free-to-view collection of 2,000 films and TV programs relating to the city and its people.
