Fodor's Review

Colchester was important enough for the Romans to surround it with massive fortifications. The Roman Walls, dating largely from the reign of Emperor Vespasian (AD 69–79), can still be seen here and there, especially to the west of the town center along Balkerne Hill. Look for its splendid Balkerne Gate.
