Gables and tall chimneys give this 1859 mansion an Elizabethan look, but extensive modern additions have transformed it into a luxurious retreat. The peaceful landscaped gardens and woodland are ideal for relaxing after a day's sightseeing. If you seek a sense of the past, ask for a four-poster bedroom or one of the small attic bedrooms with original low-beamed ceilings. The hotel is 4 miles south of the city center, on the A140.
