Memsaab Review

In a town ready to burst with cream teas, it's a bit of a surprise to find an Indian restaurant, let alone such an exceptional one. Among the classics one would expect from a curry house—from mild kormas to spicy madrases and jalfrezies (traditional curries made with chili and tomato)—are some finely executed specialties, including Nizami chicken (a fiery dish prepared with yogurt and fresh ginger) and king prawn bhuna (with ginger, garlic, and spring onion). The menu also contains regional specialties from Goa and Hyderabad.

    Spicing up Lavenham

    We were staying in the very famous, very old, Swan in Lavenham. Dinner for 2 nights was fine but the third night saw us having to look further afield. There were a few big hitting options in the square but the food was all a bit samey. Instead we went for the lazy option- Memsaab, literally 10 yards from the Swan. You never know with curry houses but holy crap we got lucky! The food was tremendous. Dishes were a quid or so more than normal but really, they were so so worth it. No point telling you what we had, go your own path but just to say 1)this was the best curry we've ever had and 2) while we were staying at the super duper famous Swan, it's tiny Memsaab we are reviewing. Sorry Swan.
