Bath has excellent small, family-run, and specialty shops; many close on Sunday. The shopping district centers on Stall and Union streets (modern stores), Milsom Street (traditional stores), and Walcot Street (arts and crafts). Leading off these main streets are alleyways and passages lined with galleries and antiques shops.
Cheltenham is serious shopping territory. A stroll along Montpellier Walk and then along the flower-bedecked Promenade brings you to high-quality specialty stores and boutiques. A bubble-blowing Wishing Fish Clock, designed by Kit Williams, dominates the Regent Arcade, a modern shopping area behind the Promenade. General markets are held every Sunday at the Cheltenham Racecourse and every Thursday morning off Lower High Street. An indoor antiques market is open Monday through Saturday at 54 Suffolk Road; there are other antiques shops in the Suffolk area. A farmers market takes place on the Promenade on the second and fourth Friday of the month.
