Silkeborg

At the banks of the River Gudenå begins Jutland's Lake District. Here, you'll find Silkeborg, a small city surrounded by lakes and forests. The area between Silkeborg and Skanderborg contains some of Denmark's loveliest scenery and most of its meager mountains, including the 438-foot Himmelbjerget, at Julsø (Lake Jul), 15 km (10 mi) southeast of Silkeborg. You can climb the narrow paths through the heather and trees to the top, where an 80-foot tower stands sentinel. It was placed there on Constitution Day in 1875 in memory of King Frederik VII.
