Christiansborg Slot
Christiansborg Slot Review
Surrounded by canals on three sides, the massive granite Christiansborg Castle is where the queen officially receives guests. From 1441 until the fire of 1795, it was used as the royal residence. Even though the first two castles on the site were burned, Christiansborg remains an impressive neobaroque and neoclassical compound.
Folketinget. Free tours of the Folketinget are given weekdays from July until mid-September. English-language tours begin at 2. Additional tours are offered on Sunday. 33/37-55-00. www.folketinget.dk.
Kongelige Repræsantationslokaler. At the Kongelige Repræsantationslokaler, you're asked to don slippers to protect the floors. Admission is DKr 70; entry is via guided tour only. Tours are given daily every day throughout the year at 3 pm, except on Mondays, October through April, when the chambers are closed to the public. 33/92-64-92.
Højesteret. The Højesteret was built on the site of the city's first fortress. The guards at the entrance are knowledgeable and friendly; ask them about the court's complicated opening hours. Prins Joørgens Gård, Copenhagen K, 1218.
Ruins of Bishop Absalon's castle. While the castle was being rebuilt around 1900, the national museum excavated the ruins of Bishop Absalon's castle beneath it. The resulting dark, subterranean maze contains fascinating models and architectural relics. The ruins are open daily 10-5, closed Mon. Oct.-Apr., and admission is DKr 40. 33/92-64-92. Every day 10-5. Closed Mon. Oct.-Apr.

Interesting furnishings and functions. Enough documentation between the onsite cards and my 2 pages in my guidebook to enjoy without having to meet the once daily tour time.
