Vor Frelsers Kirken

Fodor's Review:

The green-and-gold spire of this baroque church has dominated the Christianshavn area since it was completed in 1752. Local legend has it that the staircase encircling it was built curling the wrong way around, and that when its architect, Laurids de Thurah, reached the top and realized what he'd done, he jumped. In this case, however, legend is erroneous: de Thurah died in his own bed in 1759.

  • Open: Apr.-Aug., daily 11-4:30; Sept.-Mar., daily 11-3:30. Tower closed Nov.-Mar. and in inclement weather
