Carlsberg Bryggeri

Fodor's Review:

As you approach the world-famous Carlsberg Brewery, the unmistakable smell of fermenting hops greets you, a pungent reminder that this is beer territory. (Indeed, near the brewery is the appealing little neighborhood of Humleby; "humle" means "hops.") Four giant Bornholm-granite elephants guard the brewery's main entrance on Ny Carlsbergvej. Nearby, on Gamle Carslbergvej, is the visitor center, in an old Carlsberg brewery. Colorful displays take you step by step through the brewing process. You can also walk through the draft-horse stalls; at the end of your visit, you're rewarded with a few minutes to quaff a complimentary beer. The free Carlsberg Museum (Valby Langgade 1. 33/21-01-12), open weekdays 10 to 3, offers a further look into the saga of the Carlsberg family, and how it managed to catapult Carlsberg from a local name into one of the most famous beers in the world.
