Nyhavns Færgekro

Nyhavns Færgekro Review

Locals pack into this waterfront café every day at lunchtime, when the staff unveils a buffet with 10 kinds of herring and a variety of smørrebrød. Once an unsavory sailors' bar when Nyhavn was the city's port, the red-and-blue building retains a rustic charm. Waiters duck under rough wood beams when they deliver your dinner specials, of, say, salmon with dill sauce or steak with shaved truffles. In summer, sit outside and order an aquavit, the local spirit that tastes like caraway seeds.

You probably HAVE to eat lunch at one of the twenty-odd places along the north side of the Nyhavn, so this is as good a place as any. Prices are a bit beyond what you'd expect to pay, and the pickled fish isn't going to suit everyone. I doubt you'd be disappointed if rather than wait for a table at this, the most crowded of the row, you walked east a bit and tried someplace else.
