"An unusual meeting place" is how the DGI Byen presents itself, and it's a thoroughly apt description. This state-of-the-art recreation and sports center, just behind Central Station, boasts a bowling alley, climbing wall, shooting range, swimming pool, spa, and 104-room hotel. The hotel rooms are an exquisite blend of Danish design. Dark blue furnishings and blond-wood floors are softly illuminated by cylindrical lamps. Short poems by the much-loved Danish philosopher Piet Hein grace the cool gray walls. Though most rooms have doubly insulated windows, you can sometimes hear the distant rumble of trains entering the station. The last train passes by at around 12:30 AM, so ask for a quiet room if you're a light sleeper. The pool is free to hotel guests; nonguests pay DKr 46. You can pamper yourself with a range of soothing treatments at the full-service spa, but it costs extra. Ask about the substantially lower weekend rates.
