A slightly bigger budget and three different venues for operas give the National Theater's resident opera company a bit more flexibility than its rival, the Statní opera Praha. Large, ambitious productions are at the main Národní divadlo. Stavovské divadlo runs more mainstream works; it's where Mozart premiered Don Giovanni, which is still regularly shown here. Truly experimental or chamber operas wind up in Kolowrat. The productions run from excellent to slightly
misconceived, but they are always professional.
