Housed in the 18th-century Sternberský palác (Sternberg Palace), this collection, though impressive, feels fairly limited when compared with nearby museums in Germany and Austria. During the time when Berlin, Dresden, and Vienna were building up superlative old-master galleries, Prague languished, neglected by her Viennese rulers. Works by Rubens and Rembrandt are on display; some other key pieces in the collection wait in the wings. Other branches of the National Gallery are scattered around town.
